IMGWF Library

The heart of the Institute for History of Medicine and Science Studies is its library. In addition to a large bibliographic and biographical department and national and international journals, the library contains source texts from the various scientific and medical disciplines as well as research literature from ethics, history of the natural sciences, medicine and technology, science and technological studies and central works of philosophy, theology, fiction, psychology and sociology of the past and present.

The library is currently home to more than 80,000 volumes and about 80 ongoing journals and is housed in the institute in Königstraße on the 4 floors of the book tower. It comprises various collections, for example the library of the Medical Association of Lübeck, the library holdings of the former psychiatric sanatoriums of Lübeck-Strecknitz as well as the extensive collection of microprints 'Landmarks of Science' with 10,000 historical monographs, 250 academy and society publications as well as relevant scientific and medical journals of the past. All bibliographic units of the library holdings can be searched online in the GBV library network.

Institute library has a presence character and its use is free of charge. Reading spaces are available to students, academics and the population of Lübeck.

The library is a member of the 'Association of Libraries in the History of Medicine and Related Libraries'.
