Psychology influences the way many people understand themselves today. As a science that is, by definition, concerned with the experience and behavior of human beings, psychology has experienced considerable disciplinary growth in recent decades and influences a wide range of areas of health care and society. The Psychological Humanities reflect this development and thus enable a multi-layered examination of psychological knowledge, its respective practices and contexts. In doing so, the Lübeck model of the Psychological Humanities combines two perspectives: (1) the view from the outside on psychology, which in particular uses approaches from the history of science and from cultural studies as perspectives from the humanities; (2) existing approaches from humanities within psychology, which include theoretical frameworks, epistemological positions, pluralistic approaches as well as ethical positions, and philosophical conceptions. In this way, the Psychological Humanities involve both reflection and critical intervention in fields of psychological knowledge.
