Climate Ethics

The necessary societal changes for climate protection are still far too hesitant worldwide and have not yet led to a reduction of global CO2 emissions. Global, international, state and local contexts of action overlap. Climate change is closely linked to loss of biodiversity with global injustice and to the lack of sustainability of lifestyles in capitalist, industrial consumer societies.
Transforming human life practices toward ecological sustainability requires perceptive and nuanced ethical and political thinking. This project will particularly consider and develop postcolonial perspectives, Kant’s ethics, and critical social philosophical approaches. Additionally, climate as a condition of life of the biosphere will be philosophically investigated.
In the Master's program in Philosophy at the University of Basel, Prof. Rehmann-Sutter has offered a block seminar on climate ethics every spring since 2018. Link
In the winter semester 2021/22, the Studium Generale of the University of Lübeck will take place on the topic „Climate“.
